About Us
The house was built by my Great Great (Great?) Grandfather in the mid-late 19th
Century and retains much of the original character. Happily, today’s visitor can
enjoy a level of comfort past generations could only dream about. The
Campbells were a very typical crofting family, leading a self-sufficient if
frugal existence growing a few crops, keeping a cow, horse and hens and fishing.
A few hard-earned luxuries came by mail-order on the steamer from Glasgow.

Highland Migration
My Grandfather’s generation were the last to be born and brought up in the
house. Like many Highlanders at the turn of the century they left for the south
and beyond: Jessie went to the States to work for the Barnum family in New York;
Mary followed her and set up home in a log cabin upstate; Murdo went to Montana
as cowboy before heading west with wagons to California; Flora only
moved as far as Inverasdale, across the Loch and my grandfather, Evander, joined
the Dunbartonshire Constabulary retiring in the 30’s to East Acheninver to help
his elderly parents with the croft.
The Owner
I was brought up in Achiltibuie and still spend a lot of time there and my
mother lives just down the road. Now I have a husband and little boy who loves
to play on the beach and explore the places I did as a child: East Acheninver is
a family home..
